More Details

Various changes in the soccer landscape at the highest level of youth club play, has led the Community Development Department to conduct a comprehensive review of the current competition structure. Based on this analysis the BCSA Board of Directors has approved a major change to the Youth Provincial A Cup Championships.  This change will not only support the Canadian Soccer Associations Wellness to World Cup Long Term Player Development but will also provide clarity to the competition which will ultimately better utilize BCSA financial and human resources.

Effective 2009 (2008-2009 Season), this competition will be held at the end of the Coastal Select/Metro league playing season.

  • 16 teams per age category – 2 spots reserved for Interior teams
    Qualification based on league standings
  • Single elimination format with the finals being held in a stadium
  • 1 rest weekend between either quarter finals and semi finals or between semi finals and finals
  • Allocations to be reviewed on an annual basis
The rational for these changes are numerous and include: remove duplicate competitions, reduce conflicts between programs (Club teams, Provincial teams, BCSA/WhitecapsFC affiliate programs), better utilization of BCSA financial and human resources, and the new structure will make the competition easy to understand for all involved and more appealing to current and potential sponsors, partners, government and the media.
